INSPIRE CHEESE PLATE ENVY on a budget.

A woman with clumpy eye make up, very long fake nails and over processed hair once asked me at a party, "So what did you bring?" and I answered, "The cheese plate." and she said, "well, that's not very creative." To which I replied with a pleasant smile and thought, "you should know broomhilda." I make a lovely cheese plate, I would even say, a thoughtful cheese plate and sometimes a very expensive cheese plate that I fashion from Whole Paycheck cheeses. The line up usually reads as: Brillat Savarin: French buttery triple cream heaven, Uniekaas aged gouda: Dutch, nutty, [...]

MY DIRTY LITTLE FAST FOOD SECRET

I have a dark little secret, well, not so secret if you know me because I never claimed to be a perfect foodie. Do they exist? I was inspired to write this after sitting down to dinner with a few fellow food enthusiasts and the topic of fast food came up. We all went a little silent for a moment. Well, I didn't go silent because that is physically impossible for me, but we all divulged our fast food Achilles heel. For one it was Taco Bell, for another it was In n Out and for me it was McDonald's [...]

ADOPT A HOLIDAY: Cinco de Mayo

You won't usually see me doing Cuervo shooters on Cinco de Mayo or drinking green beer on St. Patty's day, but as I grow a little more wise and get off my high horse, I realize that there is no harm in eating yummy food and drinking tasty cocktails in honor of any "holiday". Here are two ways that you can celebrate Cinco de Stinko and feel fabulous doing it. CINCUE DE MAYO COCKTAIL This is my Italian spin on a margarita. Bellissima! INGREDIENTS – 1 serving 1 Shot premium reposado agave tequila 1 Shot or more Italian Blood orange [...]

ONCE UPON A LITTLE SANDWICH

The first time I came across the little sandwich concept was in Madrid, Spain. They call them bocadillos or bocata because they are little mouthfuls. Boca isn't just short for Boca Raton, it means mouth in Spanish. Throughout cafes and bars in Spain, you can find little bocadillos filled simply with jamon serrano, lomo or tortilla de patata . They seldom contain more than one ingredient, although sometimes they contain olive oil or smushed ripe tomato. Spain is also home to my other favorite "finger" sandwich that can be found at Rodilla, but I will reserve that for another day [...]

FOODIE TCHOTCHKE

I am so in love right now. When I set my sights on writing a post about cool foodie chotchtke, the first place I thought of was Hungry Bunny, an adorable store on Polk street that also sells their fantastic stuff on their web site, but the first place I went to online, was Fred & Friends, another favorite. I perused Fred's catalog and on every page, I repeated in mantric style, " want that and that and that and that and that, oh and that too." Folks, if Fred and friends were located in SF, I might just switch [...]
