Two T’s in Japanese! Tamagoyaki & Tonkatsu – Video!

Tamagoyaki & Tonkatsu I must have been Japanese in another life, but you wouldn't know it by the first time I ate sushi when I turned green and promptly spit into my napkin. Luckily, I overcame my silliness and became a HUGE fan of Japanese food and not just sushi. Many folks don't know that the Japanese are masters at the grill and the fryer, but that is another post altogether! Psyche. This post is about Tamago or as Yuko corrected me, Tamagoyaki and Tonkatsu. Nope these aren't the names of my favorite Animé characters, but two of [...]

THE PERFECT RIB VIDEO

Dear Alton Brown, Thank you for teaching me a lot of what I know in the kitchen and for being the ultimate guru to all of us food nerds. I postponed making my rib video because I think I felt badly telling the world that I had proven you wrong about ribs. Don't fret master. It's just ribs. You are still right about everything else! BRAZILIAN CHEESY BALLS OF WONDER

The first time I ever took a bite of a Pão de Queijo (pronounced ''Pon de Kay-joe'') was at a Brazilian steak house/Churrascaria in Los Angeles called Fogo de Chao. They present them hot in a little basket and wrapped in a white napkin. They are very simply little baked cheese balls made with tapioca flour. Fogo de Chao is a churrasqueria aka, meat lovers paradise. You pay a set fee and eat unlimited amounts of grilled meats. I will tell you more on that on another post. Back to my cheese balls. I am not sure if they do [...]

DON’T GIMME NO HEALTHY CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE!

Ok, ok, I won't! But I will give you a healthier cookie that is oh-so-tasty. We aren't skimping on fat and sugar, just replacing white flour for whole wheat. There has been a bit of a buzz out there in the foodie world about whole wheat chocolate chip cookies. Some people keep up on music and others on style. I keep up on wild and crazy things like whole wheat. The truth is, I love whole wheat. I never imagined in a million years, or the 38+ that I have been alive, that these words would come out of my [...]

SHOW ME

I will let you in on a little secret. Sometimes, late at night, I get comfy in bed with my iphone and some headphones and surf YouTube for how to make certain dishes or how to learn a cooking technique. I am not a good book learner, but if I see something performed once, I can usually get the hang of it, not to mention seeing it performed multiple times. I am in the process of taping some TastyBits videos on everything from how to freeze bacon to my perfect rib technique. I know, you are on the edge of [...]
