GO GADGET GO – Part Trois – Le Video

Do I begin this post by addressing the VIDEO? I guess I just did. I am not going to stop writing because I am now entering into the exciting new world of video. Here it goes:

I am not a huge proponent of gadgets for gadget’s sake. In fact, I normally steer clear of new gadgets as I do with new movies. I usually wait a bit to see if they rise to the top naturally, however, in the case of Go Gadget Go part Trois, I will be recommending 2 BRAND new gadgets!

This last Thanksgiving was quite innovative in my kitchen. I used TWO, not one, but TWO gadgets that I had never used before.

DIAL-A-SLICE APPLE SLICER: When it comes to slicing one apple for the sake of immediate consumption, I opt for my Kiwi knife, but when I have the need for a multitude of apple slices for let’s say an apple pie, crumble, tart or any other recipe that calls for apples, I will rely on my new handy dandy dial-a-slice apple slicer. I believe I paid somewhere around $10 at my local restaurant supply store. I am sad to report that I could not find it online for less than $18. Boo hoo. It is called the Dial-A-Slice because you can use it to create 8 slices of apple or 16. Alton Brown recommended the 16 slicer because nobody wants huge chunky apples in their pie. At least nobody I know. The one thing I will say is that this is not a tool for a child to use. It has extremely sharp blades. I cut my finger with it while cleaning it. I still think it is a great tool, just not for kids and maybe husbands. I also recommend peeling your apples first. This makes for easy removal of the apple slices.

BUTTER SLICER: I see a theme here. I used the butter slicer to create small pieces of cold butter for my apple crumble, but I also used it to add small chunks of cold butter to my stuffing. I am pleased to say that I did find this little item online for only $4.95 at Sur La Table. I think this little gadget would also be nice for slicing compound butter or ice box cookie dough.

I don’t want to steal any more thunder from the video as it is my debut into this realm. Please let me know what you think of the video. Be nice. Share it with your friends. If you are wondering why I am standing on my roof while I talk about gadgets, it is because I thought it would be pretty to have a gorgeous view behind me, but when you view the video, you will see that it is not quite how it worked out.

Thank you soooooooo much Alicia for everything you have done to make this NEW and IMPROVED blog possible. You are amazing.

I bet the butter slicer would work great for eggs too.

My friend just bought one of these which I thought was cool. http://www.surlatable.com/product/id/205914.do?affsrcid=Aff0001&mr:trackingCode=8B6EAEDC-D781-DE11-B7F3-0019B9C043EB&mr:referralID=NA

Great video Claudia! I need a butter slicer! It is the perfect tool for making au gratin potatoes, because you need little chunks of butter. I am going out to find one!
